In 1968, Peter spent five weeks living in one of the wooden shanties of Resurrection City, when the Poor People's Campaign started by Martin Luther temporarily took over part of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. He was there as a journalist, covering the Campaign for The Saturday Evening Post. The essay he wrote based on his experiences is available in his collection The Rhinoceros Who Quoted Nietzsche and Other Odd Acquaintances. 41 years later he finally returned to the Mall, and a special man he met there, in this new piece:
