REGARDING THE CONFLICT WITH GRANADA MEDIA OVER THE LAST UNICORN

Talks which might resolve the Granada Media conflict have been under way for a while...but lately they don't appear to be getting anywhere.

It is far from clear what will happen next: there are several options. A resolution is more important than ever, now, because the amount of money that Granada owes Peter under his contract grows daily, thanks to increased sales of the Last Unicorn DVD — we've confirmed that more than 340,000 units have sold in the USA since the February 2007 25th anniversary re-release, making a total of 840,000+ units in the USA so far, with 3-5,000 new sales every week.

We will update here as things happen.

REGARDING THE CONFLICT WITH THE SAUL ZAENTZ COMPANY OVER THE LORD OF THE RINGS

The Saul Zaentz Company has so far done nothing to redress the overwhelming unfairness of this situation. Because of that we are going to take further action. Stay tuned for details.

The fans listed below have all agreed to help Peter S. Beagle win his fights with Granada Media and the Saul Zaentz Company. They did it by signing up on our secure You Can Help form. If you would like to help Peter get his contractual and ethical due, then please sign up yourself. Add your name and your message here, where they will matter...and please do share this page with everyone you think might be interested.

Granada Media and The Saul Zaentz Company are big corporations. By their words and actions they have shown they aren't going to do the right thing, not without a wakeup call. So let's give it to them, shall we?

Peter's just one guy. But Peter has many, many fans. If enough of us join together in his cause, we can't be stopped.

And for any Granada or Saul Zaentz executives who might be looking in on this page, welcome! Take a minute to scroll down and look at all the names. Read what these people have to say. Look at where they are from — literally all over the world — and then stop and think for a minute. We are this loud today. We're going to be louder tomorrow. And we will be even louder the day after that. Because we aren't going away, that's a promise. One month, six months, five years, a decade: whatever it takes, we'll keep knocking on your doors.

COUNTRY COUNT!

Peter's fans are indeed everywhere, as witness this list of 51 countries heard from so far:

Abramson, AlVerona, WIThe business people in the entertainment world seem to think creative people are the enemy. In fact, they're the lifeblood of the business, and if you take them out, you've got nothing. Can a Saul Zaentz screw a Peter S. Beagle? That's to be determined, but should he? NO! In the long run, killing the golden writer also kills the producer...
Ackermann, Daniel L.Motley, MNIt's very sad, but all too common that the real artists are taken advantage of by someone's greed!
Ackley, Amanda C.Roanoke, VAAs a writer myself, I am appalled that any company would deny any rights to someone like this. Peter Beagle's work obviously brought much to Granada Media — it is time they gave back.
Ackley, DanielleCerritos, CA
Adair, MeghanAthens, OHPeter Beagle's novel THE LAST UNICORN is a great story of searching and finding a sense of self. I grew up watching the movie and when I read the book, a whole new world was opened to me. I never realized what a wonderful place was contained inside the book. I never saw another movie which so closely followed the book upon which it was based. I feel that Peter Beagle, as an author, should have the rights to his own work.
Adams, LisaEdmonds, WATHE LAST UNICORN I count as the most impactive movie of my youth, STAR WARS close by. Since then I have read the book more than a dozen times, and have introduced it to more than a dozen others. The animated LORD OF THE RINGS also lead me to read and love Tolkien, that is also due to Peter. I love his books, and though I waited more than 2 decades for the DVD to come out (kay maybe not that format, but I was close to rubbing out the VHS tape), I wish now I hadn't bought it the day it came out, because if I knew that Peter was not getting the money, I would rather have tortured myself by putting off the pleasure of watching it over and over and exposing it to my kids. I would gladly donate all I had if I wasn't a mom and full-time student, and MUSICIAN! I am disgusted by those that exploit the artists. Those people obviously have no creativity so they spend their times taking advantage of those that do. the only reason I care about piracy is so the artist can get what they deserve. If the companies steal from them, what stops me from caring if I steal from big corrupted businesses? I still won't, but I will find any way I can not to buy from the company.
Adamson, HannahGarland, TXThough I was born in the '80s, I did not see THE LAST UNICORN until I was 20. It changed my world. It made me laugh with delight, it made me weep with grief. I will NEVER forget this movie, this book, these characters who are VERY real to me. "Magic is magic," as Captain Cully stated, and this story is most certainly magical. Thank you Mr. Beagle for everything.
Addison, SarahSpringfield, ORI am boycotting all films the Saul Zaentz Company is associated with. I will not contribute my money to such treacherous business dealings.
AdrienneSan Antonio, TXTHE LAST UNICORN is my childhood. My boyfriend just bought me the DVD the other day. I wish I had known about this situation, or I wouldn't have wanted it.
Agoto How can I help?
Ahmar, CynthiaMontreal, Quebec, CANADAI have loved this movie since the first time I saw it as a kid. I had no idea that there was a book until just recently, and I find it appalling that any company would deny the rights of the animated film to the author of the original book.

Al Meer, KhalidDoha, QATARI can't believe what's happening! Mr. Beagle should be a billionaire for his talent and great works that had major impacts in the world. I'm a director/producer myself, and I know for a fact how dirty the media industry can get sometimes. I was once put in a situation where I had to act without signing a contract in a movie that I was producing. The director promised me that if the scene didn't please me he would take it out since it won't affect the film. After it was taken, I didn't like the outcome and wanted to delete it, however the director, since he was the "talent" and the "creator," had the right to keep it even if I the "producer" and "actor" didn't approve it. I thank god that the director agreed later to delete the scene, otherwise I'd be stuck and couldn't do anything about it because it's all in the talent's hands. I'm not a lawyer but I think that Mr. Beagle has all the right to sue the producer and the company for what they've been doing all these years. As a producer, It's so embarrassing to hear that some producers are so low to take advantage of a talent and not give back in return!
Alana Power to the people!
Alberts, David S.Pacific Palisades, CAAs a grown man, and a "macho" one at that, I think that a live action LAST UNICORN movie would be amazing. If it is financed properly, and marketed right, its earning potential would be right up there with LOTR. Don't be fools. Take a chance.

AlionaMoscow, RUSSIATHE LAST UNICORN made a great impression on me when I was a child. I didn`t know about this turmoil before my mum send me an e-mail and I signed up quickly. Granada and Saul Zaentz were really wrong, I think. For great things, that Peter did to us, he should be rewarded and recompensed.
Allen, MelissaDenver, COI love Peter Beagle and THE LAST UNICORN! How could anyone take advantage of such a beautiful enlightened soul as Peter's?? For me and so many others, THE LAST UNICORN is the best fable ever and truly the grail of grails! This story has always felt like my story! No one else can spin such an enchanted tale of enlightenment and love. My favoritest movie ever!!! Yes, Peter should have the artistic and royalty rights to every movie and book he has ever created. No one should be allowed to take advantage of him like this!!! Please sign me up so I can help fight for the artistic and financial rights he more than deserves! He has given so much to the universe with his enlightened fantasy stories...yes, Peter, you are an angel, a fey, a pookah, and i love you!!!
Allen, SharonLoudonville, OHTo deny someone their just rewards for writing such a wonderful, inspiring book...and then using that to make money for your company is my definition of "evil."
Allicino, DeniseHoltsville, NYAs a little girl, I was always entranced and enamored with all things mystical and magical. My father, also being a sci-fi fan, told me about THE LAST UNICORN, knowing it would be love at first sight. BOY, was it! From that point on, I was hooked. I fell in love with the Unicorn, and Schmendrick and Molly...and watched the movie EVERY SINGLE TIME it was on television. The storyline was unlike anything else I had ever seen, and the animation was what inspired me to pick up a pencil and begin drawing unicorns, dragons, and other fantastic creatures. Today, over 20 years later, I am an art major in college and a graphic designer, with a strong focus on fantasy art, and THE LAST UNICORN was a major catalyst in getting me to this point. I have read the book dozens of times, drawn and re-drawn the characters (almost all my earlier artwork was based on the book) countless times, and own the movie BOTH on VHS tape and on DVD. I am SHOCKED and APPALLED to read that Mr. Beagle is not being compensated for his art and his contribution to society. THE LAST UNICORN is an integral part of my childhood and also shaped the path of my adulthood. This story still brings magic into my heart and tears to my eyes each and every time I read or watch it. Mr. Beagle deserves to be compensated for his work. I think it is not only unethical to deny him compensation, but utterly UNFAIR! I sincerely hope that after reading all these petitions, Granada Media and the Saul Zaentz company make things right. It is the RIGHT thing to do.

AmySelah, WAI am a teacher and Peter is an inspiration to my students to become better writers. I often use his simple, but incredibly visual sentences as example of how to write. THE LAST UNICORN is one of the best because it is unique in its genre. My heart still fills with sorrow and joy at the same time when I read the story to the students. "The unicorn lived in a lilac wood"... what a beautiful line. Thanks, Mr. Beagle. You have touched many with your words. I hope you realize this. Good luck.
Andersen, JenHong Kong, CHINAI was so excited to hear that a 25th anniversary edition of this favorite movie was finally being released. I'm also very glad that several reviewers posted on Amazon.com about this situation with the artist not getting appropriate compensation, or I wouldn't have known. I decided to buy the DVD from Conlan Press to support the artist instead of Amazon where I usually shop. I hope this helps in some small way.
Anderson-Davila, KatharineRoswell, GAEverything starts with the writers. No story can be told without an author: without Peter's words, there would have been no movie. Pay the man.

AngelVirginia Beach, VANext time you talk to Peter tell him I just read "Two Hearts" online and I cried my eyes out at the sheer terrible beauty of it all. You know the advice that tells expectant moms to read to their baby before it is born? My daughter is due in October and I am reading THE LAST UNICORN to her now. That's how special this story is to me, to everyone. Don't give up, Peter deserves it.

AshleyRockwall, TXEver since I was a child I adored THE LAST UNICORN and I watched it often. I've also read the novel which is by far one of the best books I've ever read. And as for the animated LOTR (I had no idea he wrote the screenplay) my brother was/is a big fan of the books and when he rented the movie, I watched it and fell in love with it and watched it many times and then read the books when I was older. It's a shame that Peter is being denied what is his and what he deserves. You have much support from those whose hearts you've touched. Hopefully we, your supporters, will be able to help you win this fight.
AshleySan Francisco, CAThese companies would not have the product if it weren't for Beagle's genius. It's obviously not unbelievable that a giant corporation would rip off any kind of artist, but how do you live with yourself knowing you took someone's craft, profited off of it tremendously, and left that artist to die in the street? Give credit where credit is due, and pay the man what he is owed.
Atkinson, Amanda It is really sad that this man who has produced great works does not get credit for what is deserved. I also know that THE LAST UNICORN was to be made into a live action production and because of legality it is not going to be and that is ridiculous. It is one of my favorites and I can say with pride that it is very important to me. I would love to see it in live action as well as Peter get the credit and money he deserves!
Atkinson, MalcolmWillowdale, Ontario, CANADA
Atwater, Gloria M. "ErinRua" Reno, NVI had the great pleasure of meeting Mr. Beagle at ORC 2006. A more kindly, generous man I could never hope to meet. Though I regard him as one of the Great Authors of the Fantasy genre, he had time for every fan who wished to chat. What is more, he congratulated me on my Fan Fiction award, listened with genuine interest to my aspirations as a fantasy novel writer, and we had a lovely discussion about fictional characters. In short, he made me feel like I mattered. It is time we his readers make it clear to the Powers That Be that he matters. He is due and overdue justice and recompense. I say, let us make it happens. Bless you, Mr. Beagle, and you also, Mr. Cochran for helping him make this fight.

Babineaux, AlyshaKingwood, TX THE LAST UNICORN has always been my favorite movie. My grandmother had the "family copy" and about two years ago it got lost. I was 20 years old, and I broke down in tears because that was may favorite movie and I was always borrowing it from her and watching it. About three months after she lost that copy, I found it on DVD at a store and I bought two copies (just in case) and I have still yet to open the second copy. Also, while I actually didn't realize that the movie was based on a book until I was 16, I've checked the book out from the library countless times and I am constantly looking for it in book stores so that I can buy it.

Ballenger, BrandonPompano Beach, FLTHE LAST UNICORN was my favorite childhood film, and is still one of my favorite films of all time; it's one of the most delightful, beautiful, and moving animated experiences imaginable. I sincerely believe THE LAST UNICORN has a great deal to do with my love of nature, of literature, of the fantastic. Schmendrick was, if I had one at all, my childhood hero. Mr. Beagle is an inspiration, and even were he not, this is unjust. I demand you give him his due.
Ballmer, HeatherNew York, NYI wish you the best in settling what is owed to Peter!
Baluch, MehranLondon, England, UNITED KINGDOMI think it's disgusting how a talented writer and creator like Peter S. Beagle can be willfully and ruthlessly ripped off by large corporations. Give the man his due... you bought his talent and imagination, now pay up!
Banks, Barbara Z.Marietta, GAThe works of Peter S. Beagle have shaped my life and my children's lives. The intellectual property of the genius behind the animated film, THE LAST UNICORN, should be respected, honored, venerated, and PAID.
Banks, HollyBoston, MAI grew up loving this movie. It's a shame what's being done to the one person in my life who has given me hopes and dreams.

Barbera, FrancescaViña del Mar, CHILEMr. Beagle deserves the world! His works have inspired and helped millions of people and that can't go unnoticed.
Barkley, AshleyJakarta, INDONESIAI've never in my life jumped on the "fight for what you believe in" protest bandwagon, but after coming across this site, I couldn't NOT speak out. I was dumbstruck by how one of the most brilliant writers of our time has been treated. This is utterly and completely VILE. My dad bought me THE LAST UNICORN on VHS when I was just five and it truly changed my life. After years of looking, I was finally able to find a copy of the book. As some have said, Peter S. Beagle is the only author who has made "real" magic with his work. I come back to it almost every day, still, and read bits and pieces for inspiration. His work was THE muse which made me want to become a writer. I've read more books than I can remember, of all genres, and still no one holds a light to his flame. Discovering what's become of him, how he's been wronged by these companies has disgusted me. Give credit where and when credit is due, it should be simple enough. How could anyone leech the creativity and originality of such an amazing man and do NOTHING in return? Countless others feel the same. Good luck, there ARE people behind you who support you and cherish your work.
Barnes, NettleJerusalem, ISRAELTHE LAST UNICORN touched my heart and continues to touch me. Someone who created such a work should be honored, not cheated. This is astounding and embarrasing. Peter S. Beagle deserves justice!
Barrett, John RandyCouncil Bluffs, IAPeter S. Beagle is a wonderful author who deserves much more recognition and success than he has so far received. Granada Media and Saul Zaentz and company should pay Mr. Beagle whatever money they owe him as soon as possible. After all it's the right thing to do and in the end human beings aren't supposed to treat each other this way.
Barry, AngelaPontiac, MITHE LAST UNICORN was a film that inspired my art for many years. I am highly distraught to hear that the creator has not been given due payment for his great work. This is a travesty that must end.
Barton, ReneeLos Angeles, CAMr. Beagle, this is probably the one film that has most impacted my life. From watching this film at the tender age of 3, I am permanently scarred in the best possible way. You deserve better.
Barzee, MarySunnyvale, CAIt's sad that a fine author like Mr. Beagle has to fight these big companies for what they rightfully owe him. If an individual tried to pull what these guys are doing they'd be thrown in jail, but for some reason companies like this can get away with it. Not this time, if we have anything to say about it!!
Bastos, KevinCanonsburg, PAI can remember seeing THE LAST UNICORN in the theater and being mesmerized by it. It was my first foray into the fantastical world. I was horrified to find out that yet another multi-million-dollar corporation sees fit to take advantage of an artist. I've purchased my copy of the DVD signed to my daughter, coincidentally the same age I was when I first saw this film. I intend to purchase a copy of the audio book, as well, to insure I get a copy of the new book, too. Thank you, Mr. Beagle. I remain steadfast that you can change this decision.

Bates, MorganLebanon, OHI watched THE LAST UNICORN when I was very young, I loved it so much I bought the book, now I'm looking to find the Movie again in a video store around me, its difficult but I love the Movie so much I can't give up!!
Batz, ArianaSanta Cruz, CAPeter Beagle has been my favorite author for more than half of my lifetime, and his beautiful writing has influenced and enhanced my own creativity and work. I think it is a shame to deny him the recognition and compensation he deserves for such wonderful, creative work. Companies who have benefited so greatly by their partnership with Peter should honor their contractual obligations. It would be a shame not to support such an amazing talent.
Baughman, DeanneIrvine, CATHE LAST UNICORN was a childhood favorite for me (I'm 35 now), and I really hope that Mr. Beagle receives appropriate compensation for his lovely story and all the effort he put into the making of the movie. Without his story, Granada Media would not have sold over half a million copies of that DVD (yes, I bought one of those copies, and I've ordered two copies of the new Lionsgate edition from Conlan Press, one for me, and another as a birthday gift for a friend who also grew up loving the movie)! To Granada Media and The Saul Zaentz Company, please do the right thing.
Baun, BettyPerrysville, OH I would never have imagined the brilliant Peter S. Beagle being abused in this way. If you have only seen the films you are in for a great journey and unforgettable reading experience. Do buy his books.
Baynham, DavidLexington, KYThis only the latest in an egregious trend to minimalize writers and artists to moguls and "money men" who consider themselves "artists" after they plunder legitimate artists to make blockbuster movies.
Bea, Nina This information seems fairly accurate and I would be glad to show these words publicly. Thank you.

Benson, Heather  Peter Beagle is my favorite author. Period. I saw THE LAST UNICORN in the theater when I was 7. I read the book when I was 15. Then I found "Lila the Werewolf" in an anthology. It has flowed on from there. Peter Beagle is a genius and he deserves to be paid fairly for his work.

Berthold, RebeccaSouth Coast, New South Wales, AUSTRALIAAs a little girl, THE LAST UNICORN was a huge part of my childhood. Now Peter Beagle's novels continue to enchant me and transport to a world that I feel I can belong to, sink into. I'm reading THE FOLK OF THE AIR now and enjoying so much :) I am disgusted and appalled at the treatment this great writer is receiving and personally curse all those involved in making this wonderful man's life so difficult. Peter Beagle deserves every cent and more of what he is owed and not only that but deserves a huge apology (and possibly an invite to dinner to make up for it). I am also truly sorry for the death of Peter's mum. I know how hard it is to lose a loved one and my prayers are with you.

Bishop, DonitaPueblo, COI am a supporter 100%!!!
Bissett, AriadneRegina, Saskatchewan, CANADAI was astonished to read Peter's story. We've had an old VHS copy of THE LAST UNICORN cartoon for as long as I can remember (yes I'm a youngin') and the only word for the story is breathtaking. I recall the words of King Haggard in describing his first sight of a unicorn: "The first time I saw them, I thought that I was going to die..." The power of such prose, and its adaptation into a movie, which reached and touched millions is unbelievably influencial. Particularly because both THE LAST UNICORN and Bakshi's LORD OF THE RINGS, as well as Jackson's, were seen by millions of children. I don't believe either were meant to be children's books but children don't know that. I didn't. All I knew was the difference in the profundity of these works and other movies I was being shown. Stories which go to the bone. Stories which are fantastic and realistic in the same breath. Un-condescending and thoughtful. We fantasy fans (and writers) have a habit of thinking of ourselves as odd and isolated (we tend to be introverts, thus the impetus to create our own worlds I suppose). We often don't stick up for ourselves when we should. Peter made a mistake. A mistake of trust. He may not be legally entitled to a penny, true enough, but the fact that he was rewarded for a deed of good will with rudeness and denial is reason enough for outrage. I've never met Mr Beagle, but I have heard him speak. In his work, and the adaptation of his work. We all have I would guess if we are writing these messages of support. In his work, and the work of so many others who spend their lives concerned with quality and not quantity, is where the future finds inspiration. Inspiration, amusemant, solace, and food for thought. What is the price of all that?

Blanding, SuzanneNorthridge, CAI've been a huge fan of Peter's since I was a little girl. I just purchased the re-released THE LAST UNICORN from Conlan Press. I think that it's disgraceful, how Granada Media is basically stealing from Peter Beagle. This movie was literally written by him. He must be paid royalties.
Blinzer, MichaelEdmonton, Alberta, CANADABOOOOOOOO!
Bloch, SteveCarmel Valley, CAI've known Pete over thirty years — he's a good man, loving and generous...he deserves the best life has to offer. He doesn't deserve being treated so poorly. May God help him in his quest for justice.
Block, KelciFt. Pierce, FLLIke so many others, this movie was such a wonderful part of my childhood. I can only hope that these horrible people who are trying to steal Peter's rights don't succeed.
Bohlman, MikeChampaign, ILMy fiancee is a tremendous LAST UNICORN fan, and we both had an opportunity to meet and speak with Peter at Capricon in February. Between wedding preparation, graduate school, and work, I have little time to read for fun, but I've listened to the first two chapter's of Peter's reading of THE LAST UNICORN. Phenomenal! I'm buying the rest very soon.

Bott, KathyWest Allis, WITHE LAST UNICORN was one of my favorites growing up. I'd love for my children to experience the movie in live-action format. I'm sure I'd love it myself also.
Boucher, CatherineBiddleford, MEPeter Beagle deserves to be treated fairly and with respect. He should be able to control his artistic property. THE LAST UNICORN is an inspiration and should, like the Unicorns in the sea, be set free.
Bourke, CateHartford, CTI am saddened by the treatment of Peter Beagle by Granada Media and the Saul Zaentz Company. I am currently reading THE LAST UNICON aloud to my 11 year-old granddaughter and once again experiencing the beauty of Peter Beagle's language and imagination. This time, sharing it with a child, is even more delightful than it was 25 years ago when I read the book on my own for the first, second, and third times. Then I presented the book to friends and family en masse for Christmas with my additional touch of creating a hand quilted fabric book cover for each copy. The special gift that Peter Beagle shared in writing this book did not elude me then nor does it now. "I love the way you read that," says my granddaughter when she hears the butterfly's flights of fancy in chapter 1. "Read it again. Read it again!" I don't tell her about the injustice the author suffers at the hands of Granada and Zaentz. Perhaps when we've completed this first read I will. But I must admit it creates a great sadness in me to know Peter Beagle is not being treated fairly. As I continue to read aloud I will continue to consider this case and believe I will not let it rest until this rich, lavish imagination is compensated in full.
Bowen, RebeccaPortland, ORThis is not right at all. As a matter of fact, I watched that movie just a bit ago and I had had NO idea that Peter S. Beagle wrote for it until I saw his name in the opening credits. He is a fabulous writer, he deserves his due!
Bowra-Dean, MatthewWellington, NEW ZEALANDI have many fond memories of THE LAST UNICORN and while I haven't seen the animated version of THE LORD OF THE RINGS, I do feel that Peter has been wronged by both Saul Zaentz and Granada Media. Good luck Peter!
Bowser, Kristin L.Burrillville, RIAh, the old familiar stories. A small person saves the world, two ghosts find love, a unicorn searches for her kin, and those with money and power screw over anyone they can afford to. For just a fraction of that $200,000,000 Mr. Beagle would have all the money he needs for the rest of his life, plus a little extra. Think about it. One percent of that amount is still two million dollars! I only have $32 in my bank account, and I could afford to give 1%. It's pure, inexcusable greed if Mr. Beagle does not get money from this company. And for all he has given the world with his stories, he deserves a lot more than 1%.
Boyles, ChrisNottighamshire, UNITED KINGDOMStand up for what's yours and never give in...good luck.

Bradley, EmilyMadison, WIPeter S. Beagle's THE LAST UNICORN remains one of my fondest childhood memories. This brilliant man deserved to be paid for igniting the hearts of fans all over the world.
Bradshaw, NaomiAuckland, NEW ZEALANDI can't believe Granada Media have stolen from Peter Beagle by not giving him what they are morally obliged to. Sick and wrong! If you have no heart then at least have sense. When the re-release of THE LAST UNICORN comes out the media will let the cat out of the bag and the world at large will realise how horrid you have been and boycott your work. Pre-empt this embarrassment by being honorable and paying the author what he is owed.
Bradshaw, R. JamesShepperton, Middlesex, UNITED KINGDOMI've never had opportunity to read the book - though I'm well on the lookout for it. However, anyone who creates such a wonderful story deserves proper recognition, and I'll place my name behind his efforts readily.
Bragg, JenniferColumbus, GAI didn't know until I met with you and Mr. Beagle at Dragon*Con this past year that he was having any problems. This really does make me upset. I'm spreading the word. :)
Braiding, CatherineSydney, AUSTRALIA
Braitling, BettinaFreiburg, GERMANYI have grown up with THE LAST UNICORN and hope that many more people will do. The world would be a darker place without this magical tale. So it is just fair to give its author what is his due.

Brazy, BetsyAlameda, CAI've loved THE LAST UNICORN for years! btw I'm also a first-year student at Golden Gate U School of Law.
Brinkman, BobNaples, FLI'll admit, I had never heard of THE LAST UNICORN until I first saw the movie all those years ago. But I fell in love with the movie, and the story. Now, the actions of the people behind that movie have destroyed my pleasure in that film, tainting it with their greed and horrid behavior. I will always love the works of Peter S. Beagle, but for me, there is no film and no merchandise related to it will ever see a dime of my money.
BrookeHuntsville, AL I'm behind you, Peter. A wonderful, kind, and talented man like yourself deserves every cent these companies owe you and more! The only reason THE LAST UNICORN movie was any good was b/c you wrote the screenplay. That this company is denying you your percentage of the profits (which obviously there are profits) is appalling. I will do anything I can to help. It was an honor meeting you at Dragon*Con last weekend and I can't wait to see you next year!
Brooks, RyannEmporia, KSTHE LAST UNICORN is one of the books that had an enormous impact on me growing up. It saddens me that Mr. Beagle is going through these tough times and I would love to do anything in my power to help him!

Brown, JudeSheffield, England, UNITED KINGDOMAbsolutely outraged! Who do they think they are — the writer is always overlooked — bottom of the pile — and they know it. Peter needs paying now!
Brown, KamdenAddison, TXWhen I learned of the horrible mistreatment of Mr. Beagle I was simply APPALLED to think that Granada Media would sink so low as theft, because that's what this is plain and simple. Mr. Beagle is fantastic person who shared his story with the world, then Granada Media has the gall to use that story for their own gain and not share a cent with the visionary who created it. Even if I can't appeal to the ethics of a businessman, I can certainly point a finger of shame at a person, and all people involved should most certainly be ashamed.

Bruels, Raymond IIIAustin, TXPeter S. Beagle has inspired and captivated the imaginations and hearts of countless fans. I feel it is only morally and ethically right to compensate him for his time, talent and creativity. It is only through daring and inventive people such as Peter that the Science Fiction and Fantasy genre of movies, television and books may continue to grow and prosper. Do what is right. — Ray Bruels III, Dedicated Fan
Brundige, EllenIrvine, CASaul Zaentz and Grenada: meet your contract obligations; it will save us all a lot of hassle. Make no mistake: the internet is a powerful tool for change, and Peter has fans around the world. We WILL be spreading news of this to every fan of the genre until this injustice is righted. Can you afford to have this being discussed in thousands of online communities? I urge LAST UNICORN fans to help post "How You Can Help" links to this website in every online community they can find where the new live action film is getting attention, in order to get the word out to as many people as possible.

Buono, Tamara Ysondra TonettiBarcelona, SPAINI know Mr. Beagle's works since I was a child, long ago, maybe while I was 13 I read about his LAST UNICORN story. Then I loved the animated movie. I simply felt in love with all the characters, specially Amalthea. But I loved Schmendrick too. His stories were one of my very most loved companions in my spare time. I owe him much, so with him I discovered the fantasy literature world. There's magic in the way he writes.
Burcksen, BrankoSan Rafael, CAMy dad has been a film editor for nearly thirty years, and he's never worked on a major motion picture. He's worked with a few directors in the last few years, who tried to make a name for themselves and produce great films, but they are still being knocked down by studios involved in marketing who cut their films without them knowing it, force amateur artist decisions on the final cut or simply ignore their desire to have the film screened simply because of the issues it deals with. My point is I understand what it feels like to not get the credit, or in this case cash, where it is deserved. As a fan of Peter S. Beagle I feel some responsibility to help him some way that is reasonably considerable. I know it would be a large feat to win against Granada in a law suit. I hope that this victory will in some way benefit the movie that I think at this point has about as much chance as being made as Terry Gilliam's failed movie THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE, yet I still put my hope where there is none, like I do here now. Even if this law suit is won by a great miracle, this I will always remember: "There are no happy endings because nothing ever ends."
Burke, HannahOakley, CAI bought the special edition DVD of THE LAST UNICORN, and I'm watching it right now with my baby brother. Getting to meet Peter S. Beagle and getting it signed by him was amazing, and now getting to watch this movie again is wonderful. As soon as I'm able to, I plan to buy the book as well — definitely from Conlan Press! What's happened is completely wrong, and I wish that Mr. Beagle didn't have to fight for his rights like this — he should have never been wronged in the first place by that company. I'm so happy that you're doing this, and I really hope the conflict is resolved and Peter S. Beagle gets what he's been fighting for all this time!
Burke, LauraPullman, WAThis movie changed my life and I am so incredibly grateful to have come across it.
Burkhart, VictorTrenton, OHWe are with you Peter, just as your books and masterpiece film have been with us since childhood.
Burnette, ErinSummerville, SCTHE LAST UNICORN was the first movie I ever remember seeing as a child and the first book that I ever hunted for and continued to read over and over again. Every time I watch the movie or read the book, I feel like I am a child again, seeing things for the first time. This is the only story that has given me this feeling, ever, and for that relief from the stresses and heartaches of the real world, I owe a great debt of gratitude toward Peter. He deserves his well-earned money and more, and if even my small words can help to tip the scale between success and failure, then I am more than willing to stand up for the rights of a man who has given me limitless, nostalgic happiness where nothing else has.
Burns, AshleyScotland, GREAT BRITAINTHE LAST UNICORN movie was one of the most inspiring things in my childhood. It's disgusting that the creator continues to receive nothing for this adaptation of his remarkable story. It's my pleasure to buy Peter S. Beagle things only from Conlan Press, and to encourage others to do the same, if only as a small attempt to right this. It's also my pleasure to tell others of the twisted business practices used by the companies engaging in this swindle. Take note, guys.
Burns, KananiSanta Cruz, CAI've known Pete since 1973 or so and my daughter lived with the Beagles when I was very ill. I am very glad to help in any way I can. Aloha, Kanani (Barbara) Burns
Byers, LoreeShelton, WAThe writer gives birth to his or her work in a process very much the same as labor and delivery. When you steal an author's words, it's like kidnapping. THE LAST UNICORN is every bit as personal and important as Peter's DNA, and he must be compensated for the loan of it.
Byrkjedal, SynnøveNORWAYThere's something very wrong with the world today!!!

CariRichmond, VA I love THE LAST UNICORN. It's one of my all-time favorite movies from when I was a child. Mr. Peter Beagle should be thanked and compensated for his contribution to storytelling.
Carlson, NicoleGranada Hills, CALike many of us under 30, I was first introduced to the haunting, elegaic story of THE LAST UNICORN via the animated film. It has sparked a lifelong love of fantasy, for which I will never be done thanking Mr. Beagle.

Cartan, JohnAlameda, CAI hope Granada Media and The Saul Zaentz Company are smart enough to sense an opportunity here. If they can turn this situation around, an enormous amount of talent and energy will start to work for them instead of against them. As for me: I stand with Peter.

Castalia, Drew Thanks for bringing the dire circumstances of Peter Beagle to the attention of appreciators of his work online. Thanks to word of mouth, or of hyperlink, I found your website and would be very willing to help Peter as much as I can. Cebula, KristiWyoming, MITHE LAST UNICORN is one of the most beautifully-written stories I have ever read. At 27 years old I still enjoy it as much today as I did when it came out when I was 2. It is absolutely appalling what Grenada is doing to Peter. Can I fly to England and picket the idiots while negotiations are continuing just to make them realize that there is a significant fan base that is appalled at what they are doing to Peter? This is just one more attempt at large companies trying to walk all over the little man. Disgusting. If I can ever help anymore than I already have, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
Cerchione-Peltier, ChandraNashville, TNI love Peter S. Beagle — for books such as A FINE AND PRIVATE PLACE, UNICORN SONATA, THE LAST UNICORN, THE INNKEEPER'S SONG, and GIANT BONES. He should be rewarded for the lyricism and wit that he has contributed to the literary world!
Chad I support Mr. Beagle's efforts to the end that they bring about a quality live-action version of THE LAST UNICORN, with Christopher Lee starring as King Haggard. THE LAST UNICORN is a book that tells a magical tale that could certainly translate to a beloved and successful movie.

Chapin, PatPahrump, NVBeen reading Peter S. Beagle material since I was a teenager many years ago and found I SEE BY MY OUTFIT, and my child grew up with his fantasy worlds. THE LAST UNICORN as a film is only any good because it follows the original story so closely. To have by any means withheld payment to the creator of a work is so unethical, be it legally or morally or both, is disgusting in a way I have no polite words to describe, and makes we wish we could set rock targs on Granada. I hope someone will contact me if I can in any way assist Mr. Beagle, whose work has given pleasure and inspiration to me and so many others. I will go further -- if Mr. Beagle needs an illustrator, please have him contact me for a project at the addresses I've given Conlan, no charge. I owe him. http://www.ThreeMermaids.com.

Choma, JamesBrecksville, OHHow much money do you need? How can you not compensate Peter fairly for the work he did, resulting in your project's success? How incredibly selfish of Saul Zaentz. Give Mr. Beagle what's due to him as you've promised! You wouldn't be where you are today without his hard work
ChristinaIndianapolis, INI don't remember the first time I watched THE LAST UNICORN. All I know is it was back in the days of beta tapes and family-owned video stores. When it came out on DVD I couldn't afford a new one, but I eventually bought a used copy so I could share this wonderful movie with my children. Mr. Beagle deserves every penny of royalties that he is owed. I will spread the word and help however I can!

Clark, BrandiKeller, TXWhen I was young, the annimated film of THE LAST UNICORN touched my heart. I watched it nearly every day. As an adult, I have read Peter's works. They have a much deeper meaning to me now, and I will always cherish his stories, which are very dear to my heart. This man deserves the rewards of his work, and I find it truly an outrage the way he has been denied the financial success that is rightfully his.

Clifton, Michael Hello, I am interested in trying to help out Peter S. Beagle. I think it's an outrage what they have done to them and I would be happy to write letters, make phone calls and get a lot of people I know involved.
Cody, Michael S.Hamburg, NYI admit to not being the biggest fan of the book or the movie, but Mr. Beagle is entitled to the revenue from it, and deserves to win.

Collins, ShelaghDes Plaines, IL
Collum, FionaSeattle, WAI am dismayed that despite being a beloved and mindblowingly talented author, Peter is being shown no respect and has to deal with the horrendous financial situations he's been given. The contributions he's made to the literary world should have long ensured him a steady amount of money to live off and take care of other circumstances, as well as giving him enough finance to be comfortable in old age. Writers are clearly not afforded all the respect they deserve. Mr. Zaentz leaves me gagging.
Colvard, Nickolas IanVeneta, OR
Conley, CatProvidence, RI Mr. Beagle's stories read as if one's father were sitting there and telling them as bedtime stories. Taking money from or denying money to Mr. Beagle, therefore, feels like stealing from your father. That's not high on my list of feelings I'd like to experience.
Connell, SherryLodi, CA
Contilli, DanAurora, ILPeter S. Beagle's work has touched many people's imaginations, including mine. Please compensate the man for his creative talents. I'm sure that your respective companies wouldn't miss the money as much as he could use it.

Copeland, MoiraOakville, Ontario, CANADAI'm outraged to learn that the brilliant author who wrote that classic of my childhood has been cheated out of his artistic creative earnings!
CoreenNew Milford, CTThe honorable thing to do is to give credit where credit is due. To rob an artist of the benefits of his creations is a deplorable act. Things need to be set right.
Cormier, Frank "Damonk"Ottawa, Ontario, CANADAI am truly saddened by this unethical and completely inexcusable scenario that Peter has been placed in by a large media corporation. It's the kind of story that you hear about all the time on TV or in the news, but that you never truly understand or see the personal impact until someone like Peter steps up and tries to single-handedly take on the heartless Goliath. In my opinion, ITV and its subsidiaries should accept and admit that they screwed up before the situation balloons up any further and they really damage their reputation and their wallet in an irreparable fashion...I have sent you 25 dollars — the approximate cost of the LAST UNICORN DVD we purchased a few years back. Though I can't afford to send more at this time, I will certainly do my best to spread the message so that more can help. Don't give up Peter — you deserve everything you are fighting for.
Corsey, Oryanna As a fan of the book and movie, and as an artist, I cannot abide by such an attempt to undermine the work of THE LAST UNICORN's creator. Give an artist due for his hard work.
Cortez, MorayaNorthport, ALThis is a real tragedy...THE LAST UNICORN brought me an extreme amount of happiness as a child. It is sad to think that the genius behind this wonderful story is not receiving what is rightfully his. This man deserves better than this. He has given so many children a beautiful story that has contributed to the growth of their imagination and dreams. Thank you Mr. Beagle for touching my heart so deeply and I am sorry that you are being denied what is rightfully yours. I hope our support will help you!
CortnyBritish Columbia, CANADAThis movie rocks and it has been impossible to find. I only ever remember seeing it once but such a movie it was, it is still stuck in my memory. SAVE IT and thank you to the fabulous creator.
Courtright, AudraSand Springs, OKI absolutely loved THE LAST UNICORN and have the DVD of the animated film, I want to own the soundtrack, tho I cannot find it anywhere, and would LOVE to see the live action film. This story has been a true beauty to so many people and it's simply wrong to deny the creator his rights as the author of this wonderful tale!! I can only hope that he gets justice and we can go on seeing his beautiful works!! THANKS, MR. BEAGLE!!!!
Covaciu, Stefania ArabelaTimisoara, Timis, ROMANIAI love THE LAST UNICORN and I support Peter in his cause.
Cox, AmandaRoanoke, VAI have loved THE LAST UNICORN since childhood. I rented it over and over, and when I found the book I read it over and over. Peter S. Beagle's work has inspired me. His writing is one of the major reasons I chose to be a writer myself. Every writer is entitled to the gains earned from his/her work and mind. Especially when it has been such an inspiration for others.
Cox, CassandraPerth, AUSTRALIA
Cox, Joseph LeeCocoa, FLPeter S. Beagle is a wondrous storyteller, a magician in the truest meaning of the word, and a true sweetheart. I will take all the actions to help change things for the better and get Peter all that is owed to him.
Cox, MicheleCastro Valley, CAThis is ludicrous. The first responsibility of a business is to keep adequate records; if they say they don't have them, they're either lying or incompetent. (Or, I suppose, both.) Have you considered asking other of their authors how they've been treated? I can't believe they would single Mr. Beagle out for this, and perhaps several authors together demanding the actual records be released would be more effective. In any case, no one should be treated this way, and certainly not anyone who has provided as much joy to as many people as he has.
Cox, Rebekah NaomiCocoa, FLPeter's captivating stories, graceful word-craft and fascinating characters have given me beautiful new worlds to escape to and the amazing gift of inspiration. His stories are true magic, and he has me spellbound. Peter S. Beagle has opened the door to magic and art in my life, and though I could never truly repay him, it feels wonderful to give a little back. Peter and Connor you have my full support in this fight for justice.
Cox, WylieTucson, AZWithout Mr. Beagle, there would be no DVD of THE LAST UNICORN. How could a British publishing company refuse an author his lawful royalties? If they do not pay him, I will no longer purchase anything published or distributed by Granada or Saul Zaentz.
Craib, MelissaIowa City, IAMr. Beagle's writing has influenced my life and the lives of my peers. His undoubtable talent has inspired so many of us in the creative genre, and has inspired an entire generation. There is no doubt that the story of THE LAST UNICORN is his creation, and all credit is due him for this outstanding work. I am stunned to find that he was not properly represented, and that he has not received royalties deserved from the film that brought his novel to life. Please do the right thing, and give credit where credit is due. When creative persons are not compensated for their work, an environment is made in which creativity is victimized. The storytellers deserve to not only tell their stories, but to be able to earn a living from their efforts as well. Take that away, and there will be no more stories to tell. We see Hollywood and network television moving in that direction anyhow. Please stop and think, for a moment, as to those actions creating this environment, and decide if that's really what legacy you wish to leave behind.
Crawford, ChristinaRockwood, TNI am a 21 year old Pre-Veterinary Medicine and Horse Science student. My love of horses was spurred by a menagerie of events, especially those that took place during the first few years of my life in the 80s- my first pony ride, My Little Pony toys, and above all the movie, THE LAST UNICORN. When I reached high school, I discovered the book and read it from cover to cover; occasionally I will pull it out and reread it. When I found out the DVD was coming out on video, I purchased it; though after finding this website through a friend, I am disappointed that not even a portion of what I paid for the item even went to the person responsible for the original storyline. Though I am old enough to see that the world can be rather political and unfair to those who are not ruthless and cruel in their endeavors, I believe THE LAST UNICORN as a book and as a film has made such an impact on my generation and the one before me, with a following that is not enormous but very dedicated, that Beagle should receive some amount of profit since afterall the film was based on his COPYRIGHTED book!
Crawford, GingerMidway, GAI first read THE LAST UNICORN at the age of fourteen back in the late 60s. It has always stayed with me. As someone who has taken up writing after retirement, I can tell you that I know how much a writer's work means to them. What has been done to Mr. Beagle is an absolute horror of bad faith and a nauseating example of the ugliness a big corporation is capable of. I have no way to support this effort monetarily, but rest assured I will not let this lie. I'm putting the story out on my webpages and intend to make everyone aware of this shocking and sickening display of corporate greed. Godspeed, Mr. Beagle. Your admirers will never. let. this. rest. I hope the corporate fat cats get that plain and clear. We will never let up.
Crouch, DavidSacramento, CAThis situation is a travesty and clearly Peter is being treated unfairly. I have loved this movie since I was a child and saw it in the ‘80s and have constantly over the years seen merchandise available for it. Most recently I have noted that the retail chain "Hot Topic" ALWAYS has t-shirts in stock for THE LAST UNICORN.

Curry, David AndrewKurashiki, Okayama, JAPANIt was due to such writers as J.R.R. Tolkien and Peter S. Beagle that I owe my infatuation, admiration, and love for fantasy and folklore. Both writers have inspired me to write with the hopes of adding to so rich a field. I'm deeply appalled and distressed over the situations presented with Mr. Beagle, as well as the situation between Mr. Peter Jackson and New Line over LOTR: FOTR. Both incidents are harming those responsible for stories being told - whether book or film versions. If any of my works were to be published, this would be my utmost nightmare, aside from having my work stolen from me. If there was any fault on behalf of either Mr. Beagle or Mr. Jackson, it was due to their willingness to trust in those who'd help their dreams come true. But should it be such a fault to have such trust in each other? It is, without a doubt, a marred spot on humanity when it is proven that trust cannot be ultimately established between men due to the insufferable returns yielded by those who feel commitments based on trust are as good as words lost in the wind.
Curry, MariaBaltimore, MDI saw THE LAST UNICORN in the movie theater when it first came out. I was 7 years old and my mom took me because I had always loved unicorns. I've loved this movie ever since and it's a cherished part of my childhood. I own it on VHS (my mom actually talked another lady out of buying it when she found it so she could get it for me!) and I picked up the DVD when I came across it in the store (had I known then what I know now I wouldn't have though). I want to take this opportunity to thank you for sharing your wonderful story with the world, Mr. Beagle. I'm truly sorry that you're going through so much hardship and please know that while I'm not in the position to do as much as I'd like, I would not think twice about stepping up to help in whatever small way I can. For all the wonder and hours of enjoyment this one magnificent story has brought to so many, for all the people it has inspired to follow their dreams or write stories of their own, for all the parents who share the story they grew up adoring with their children who in turn grow to love it just as much, for all the lives it's touched and enriched, Mr. Beagle deserves our thanks and gratitude a million times over. May all the happiness you've brought to the countless multitude of those who hold this story near and dear to their hearts come back to you in all it's glory. I wish you the best of luck in your fight. With all the positive energy coming your way from so many, good things are sure to come your way. All the best and God bless. :)

DeborahEdinburgh, South Australia, AUSTRALIAIt's about time that those whose talent is abused are brought justice. I request everyone to rise to the cause and help to bring about what is owed to Peter, taking it away from those who do not care about the talents of others and abuse their trust. What goes around will come around so beware all of those who have betrayed this trust.
Defenbaugh, PaulRankin, ILOne of my favorite authors, ever.
de la Serna, AnaGuadalajara, MEXICOLet's do what is right!
De Leon, Ana LiliyDalas, TXPeople all over the world grew up reading Peter's books in so many different languages, or watching the animated movies he has been involved in! Let's be fair and recognize his work...
Delgado, Juan Jr.Austin, TXI hope that what Mr. Beagle deserves will finally come to him.
Demyan, DaveTwisp, WAThe corporate dragons cannot prevail. I'll help as much as I can.

den Boer, Matthea ErinToronto, Ontario, CANADAIt is a travesty what has been done to Peter. Please, Granada Media, do the right thing and give Peter what he is owed and rightly deserves. People are watching to see how you will respond in the negotiations and will make sure to keep that in their heads when they go out to buy products in the future. Again, please do the right thing.

Dickover, NoelCentreville, VAI have never heard of the Saul Zaentz Company prior to hearing of their theft of Pete Beagle's earnings, however, in looking into it, I find that Saul Zaentz as a company is indeed big. I guess we now know how the person, Saul Zaentz, made his company so large — by screwing honest, hardworking artists out of their income. I shall be boycotting their products from this point forward, and will be spreading the word across the movie forums to help others learn of Saul Zaentz's shabby business practices. Also, THE LAST UNICORN is my daughter's favorite movie. It truly saddens me to learn that in truth, THE LAST UNICORN now stands more for unbridled corporate greed instead of the wonderful entrance to fantasy that it once stood for.

Dobbins, Julie Let me know what to do and I'll do what I can. I have recently gotten acquainted with Peter and am appalled that he is being treated this way. He is a very kind man and not only is this not right, it's flat out wrong.

Dostalik, MargaretPlano, TXPeter S. Beagle is a wonderful author and it bothers me to see him have his due ungiven.
Dougherty, ErinGreensboro, NCWe should be supporting our writers, not exploiting them.
Douglas, PaulTralee, Kerry, IRELANDI want to give my support here too. THE LAST UNICORN movie made a big impact on me as a child. Someday I'll read the book to my own children! Hope this helps.

Drake, DarisSan Diego, CAPeter Beagle deserves his fair share. He is no ordinary scriptwriter, he wrote the book, and as such deserves his fair share. As one who has purchased the DVD and the book, I demand he receive fair compensation for his creation.
Drynan, Maureen
Duffy, Elizabeth AnnGlasgow, Scotland, UNITED KINGDOMPeter Beagle's work has inspired me since I learned to read from THE LAST UNICORN before beginning primary school. His work openned the door to the world of literature, and from that to all the arts, which are the great passion of my life. It is because of his work I decided to be a writer, and am just beginning my career. Not only that, but THE LAST UNICORN (my personal favourite of his work) also helped me in my academic life, from primary school, to now in University. I would, if I had any money of my own, give every penny to help the man who has given me so much without ever laying eyes on me when he is in need. If he reads this, I want him to know that I am eternally grateful to him, he is without doubt my favourite author and one of my greatest inspirations, and please, do not give up. Fight for what's yours! Your work is described with by word "masterpiece," accept nothing less than that deserves.
Duggleby, TonyRichmond, British Columbia, CANADAThis is outrageous.
Dulaney, KellyAZTHE LAST UNICORN — both the novel and the film — carried me through my lonely, childhood days. By age eight, I had worn through four VHS copies of the film, and had read the novel more than once. I owe some of my more spectacular imaginings to Peter S. Beagle's works, as he gave me a beautiful and vibrant starting point from which I could learn to examine the world.... Writers are shapers of our culture; they provide us with the tools to analyze life, to find beauty in it even while everything seems to be tinged with sadness. Please, don't lets exploit those people that can give us such an overwhelming appreciation for beauty, because there is already so little of it in the world.

Duval, ShaylaToronto, Ontario, CANADAPeter S. Beagle wrote the story THE LAST UNICORN. How can he be denied the rights when SO MANY of the lines in the movie were taken VERBATIM out of the book? He has my utm
